Welsh Cakes, also known as Welsh Cookies or Bakestones, are a mix between a scone and a pancake. They are griddled like a pancake, so the outside is slightly caramelized and crunchy while the inside remains soft and flakey just like a scone. These little “cakes” date back to the 1800’s in Wales where they were used to feed coal miners. In recent years they have become very popular as a teatime treat. Traditionally Welsh Cakes were made with black currants, however they now often come in many different varieties
